What started out as a casual conversation about what to do after our daughters went off to college has evolved into The CMEH Foundation.
After our initial medical mission trip to Cambodia in 2009, we set up our own annual trips to the same region working with small medical teams. Our first trip made us aware of the high toll that diabetes and hypertension were having on the adults and their children. With the support and direction of the Kratie Public Health Director we have developed educational programs and brought badly needed medications to this large population of people.
We have learned much from our experiences the broad impact that non-communicable chronic diseases have on whole villages and families. Although these illnesses are one of our main focuses, we still support and treat any child or adult that comes to see us for any concern.
Our focus has broadened over the years to include education. We believe in taking students from the US with us to develop younger generations that help and support others. More recently we are now supporting young Cambodians who wish to enroll in medical and nursing schools.
All these programs are with the goal to leave behind sustainable services to help the people help themselves.
We are just starting our fund raising efforts. We have received generous donations and assistance from:
"We want to give an extra 'Thank You' to our anchor sponsor The Gourley Family whose support and advice has been invaluable."Cheryl Melick, M.D. & Elisa Hamill, RN, MS, MSN., CMEH Foundation Directors
For the 2016 trip and student sponsorship, we have received generous donations from the following. The Gourley Family has continued to be our lead sponsor and their generous donation provides for our medications, supplies and significant student support.
